Betty Jane Smith

Betty Jane Smith, 83, a native and resident of the Hays Creek community, died at 12:29 a.m. Thursday April 20, 2017, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Miss.
She was a longtime resident of Yazoo City, Miss., where she worked for the Southern Bag Corporation for 34 years before retiring as the vice president of human resources. Betty was a member of the Hays Creek Southern Baptist Church, and enjoyed completing crosswords and Sudoku puzzles. She loved to read all different types of books and also enjoyed tending to her yard and pet dogs.
She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben and Myra Smith of Zwolle, and Mike and Tania Smith of Prairieville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, B.J. Smith and Vera Wood Smith; sisters, Mildred Smith and Helen Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Smith Brumfield and Elgin Brumfield; and a nephew, Bobby Brumfield.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home on Saturday, April 22, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and after noon on Sunday, April 23.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Frederick Brumfield and the Rev. Rick Elder officiating. Burial will follow in the Hays Creek Southern Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Byron Brumfield, Mark Jenkins, Raymond Gerald, Jonathan Gerald, Derek Adams, Justin Jenkins, Richie Green and Nick Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be James Romano, Randy Borne and Jim Smith.
