John Cotton

John D. Cotton was born March 18, 1953, in Warnerton. He was assisted during birth by a midwife of the community. He was born to Thelma and Johnny Cotton; his parents preceded him in death. He is one of four children. He gave his life to Christ Jesus during his adult years.
John D., nicknamed “Johnny Cool,” attended the Washington Parish School System. He later joined the Job Corps and returned home working odd jobs. He was a devoted and loving family man. John touched the lives of many people with his smile, humility, and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. He loved purchasing candles to give to the sick and downhearted including his friends. He answered his heavenly call on Thursday, July 13, 2017.
He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia Magee Cotton for several years. John will forever be remembered by his loving sisters, Gwendolyn Ginn of Franklinton, and Shirley Cotton of Hammond; beloved children, Amonica and Joe Sparlin of Virginia, Roland Warren, Nadia Warren, and Sookie Warren of Franklinton; treasured grandchildren, Joseph and Jacob Sparlin, Jada and Destiny Warren; caring nephew and nieces, Bryan Baham Sr., Alvin Long Jr. and Laneatrice Long; special friend, Sidney Bickham; along with countless other relatives, nieces, nephews, friends and family whom were blessed to know him.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 21, from 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 22, at 1 p.m. at Sweet Home Church with the Rev. Washington E. Drake, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Sweet Home Cemetery.
