Bowling Green School’s Buccaneers went 0-2 in the Silliman Jamboree that took place Friday night.
“We didn’t play well and we weren’t ready to play the first game physically,” Bowling Green coach David Currier said. “Defensively, we just stood there and looked at them while they ran the ball on us. The second game, we were ready to play and we were physical. We just had some blown assignments, which I can live with. We can fix that.”
The first game was a 16-0 loss to Central Private in a game where the Bucs struggled with turnovers.
Bowling Green committed four turnovers — two fumbles and two interceptions.
The Buccaneers lost the second game, 20-6, to Silliman Institute.
“We did move the football and were physical,” Currier said. “We had some guys who are inexperienced in the secondary and didn’t cover a couple of deep balls.”
Currier said the good thing is that the coaches saw what the team needs to work on the most.
Currier said Cam Bell’s play is still a bright spot for the Bucs.
He had nine rushing attempts for 92 yards and a touchdown for the two games. Most of that was against Silliman.
The Bucs committed two turnovers, a fumble and an interception.
Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Jamboree was cancelled. Both teams are just one day away from opening the regular season.
Both teams will open the season at home Friday. Bowling Green will face Park Place Christian while the Eagles will host New Orleans Home School.
