Ben’s Ford Christian School takes to the road for the first time this season and plays against Amite School Center.
Ben’s Ford begins the week at 2-0 after a forfeit win over Bowling Green last week. The Eagles won just one game in the 2016 season.
“It’s definitely a big game,” Ben’s Ford coach Dean King said. “ASC is a tough opponent. They’re really physical and they’ve got a good offensive scheme. We are going to have to defend well and contain the quarterback. He’s an all-around solid player. He’s physical, he’s fast and he can run the ball. We just need to make sure we contain him and make sure he doesn’t make big plays on us. That’s our goal. If we can control him, we can stay in the game.”
One area the Eagles hope to improve in is turnovers. Ben’s Ford fumbled twice last week. One was inside the opponent’s 10 and the other was inside the 5.
Ben’s Ford’s touchdowns were on a pass from Tyler Winstead to Kameron Underwood, and Jacob Seal had the other on a rushing score.
Defensively, King was happy with his unit.
“I was very pleased with our defensive end play, Kameron Underwood and Peyton Miller,” King said. “Adam Smith had a big night at D-tackle. All around defensively was a good effort to us. We were swarming to the ball, we were hitting and we were tackling. It was just three big plays that hurt us.”
The teams met last season, with ASC winning, 38-0. Amite School Center enters this week with a 1-1 record.
“I just took over this year, so they’re still having to get adjusted to me,” Amite School Center coach Chris McGraw said. “What I’ve brought in here has been a mind-boggle for them. They’ve adjusted well and that’s good. I’m going to run the football. That’s all I’ve ever done. I want to pound the football.”
Quarterback Brady Milton ran for 254 yards and four touchdowns last week in the team’s 38-30 victory over Silliman Institute. Milton also caught a touchdown from McCain Carnegie.
The running backs are Carnegie and Connor Hartzog.
McGraw said both running backs run the ball well, but noted that he found a rhythm last week and stuck with it.
The wide receivers are Jacob Applewhite and Austin Griffin.
The top defenders are inside linebackers Drew Brady and Chance Roberts. Brady has 27 tackles this season while Roberts has 20.
