A Loranger man was arrested last Saturday on drug charges, after an alert patrol sergeant noticed he was towing a load that was not properly secured, according to Chief Deputy Mike Haley of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Haley said that WPSO Patrol Sgt. Randy Reviere was on patrol Saturday, and made a traffic stop on a suspicious truck carrying a red four-wheeler that was unsecured. The tailgate of the truck was not locked in place. In addition, Reviere noticed tires, wire fencing and other materials that were not secured in the bed of the truck.

Haley said that the driver, Anthony Scardina III, 41, of Loranger, did not have a driver’s license on his person. A criminal check indicated Scardina had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge, Haley said.

Haley said that Scardina was advised he was under arrest and a subsequent search revealed Scardina had methamphetamine, a firearm, cash, and other drug related items in his possession. All items were seized and placed into evidence.

Scardina was booked into the Washington Parish Jail with his bond set at $13,050. On Tuesday, he met the conditions of his bond and was released.

Haley said that Scardina has one previous stay in the Washington Parish Jail. In December of 2011, while a resident of Bahm Road in Franklinton, he was placed in jail charged with theft and computer fraud. He stayed one night before his release after posting a $10,000 bond.

Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal commented on the arrest.

“Good arrest, Sgt. Reviere! I appreciate your being alert to this situation and making certain Scardina transitioned out of our community and into our jail,” Seal said. “I am grateful for the excellent work you and all of our officers do on a daily basis.”
