Washington Parish President Richard “Ned” Thomas issued a statement Thursday, concerning the possibility that Tropical Storm Nate might affect the parish in the coming days.

“As your parish president, I would like to ensure all citizens of Washington Parish that my Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is and will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Nate,” Thomas said, in the statement. “As of today (Thursday), we are coordinating with the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness through conference calls. At my direction, they will post updates to the Washington Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Facebook page, along with the parish government web page.

“Forecast models for Tropical Storm Nate currently have a landfall on or near the Louisiana coast as a Category 1 hurricane. Emergency operations will be directed from the Washington Parish Emergency Operations Center over the weekend and throughout the duration of this weather event.

“All residents, if you haven’t already done so, should be preparing and as always, have an emergency plan in place. Now is the time to make sure your generator is in working order and that you have all necessary supplies you may need for seven days. I continue to urge everyone to remain vigilant and stay tuned to local media.”
