Bowling Green travels to Adams County Christian School tonight with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
“They’ve got a lot of speed,” Bowling Green coach David Currier said. “We’ve got to go in there and control the ball, move the ball, get some first downs and keep it away from them. We’ve got to be more physical. We scored a lot of points last week, but we didn’t slow them down. Turnovers hurt us.
“I think our big-play capability will be taken away from us because of their speed. That’ll be the test, moving the ball and getting first downs on them.”
Bowling Green is 0-7 this season, after a 43-40 loss to Central Private School last Friday.
Quarterback Cameron Bell has put a solid season together. Bell is the team’s leading rusher. He has run 88 times for 656 yards and seven touchdowns. He also currently has 526 passing yards, with five touchdowns and three interceptions.
Bell was strong against Central Private, in the Buccaneers’ homecoming game. He ran for 266 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns. He also completed 11 of 15 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown.
Bell’s touchdown pass was to Charles Panksley. Larry Dillon returned a kickoff for a score and Cameron Brock added a rushing touchdown.
Gunner Peterson leads the defense with 40 tackles.
Bowling Green is facing a team that has had plenty of success over the last three years. Adams has gone to the state title game two of the last three seasons. Those are sandwiched between a state semifinal year in 2015.
This year, Adams County Christian School is 6-1. The team enters this week after a 20-0 victory over Silliman Institute.
“We’re not as good as we have been the last several years, but I like this team,” Adams coach David King said. “We’ve had some bright moments and some not so bright moments, but we’ve had a good year. We’ve got a young team. We have a lot of first timers. We’ve had some growing pains, but it seems like each week, we’re correcting some things and I like seeing the progress the youngsters are making.”
King said that six juniors start on both sides of the ball and five are first-year starters.
Dykevis Ford is one of Adams’ top players. Ford has scored nearly every way possible this season. Ford has at least one touchdown receiving, rushing, a punt return, a kickoff return and he has brought back an interception for a touchdown.
Jacob McDaniel is the quarterback and he also plays linebacker. King said McDaniel does a good job of leading the team.
