A B.B. gun caused a minor disturbance at the fair Wednesday night, but law enforcement officials said the first few days of the large annual event went otherwise smoothly, according to information from the Franklinton Police Department.

FPD officials said that on Wednesday, the FPD responded to an incident at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds that arose from an argument between individuals and led to a fight. During the altercation, witnesses told officers one individual pointed a B.B. gun and fired it, striking another individual, who sustained a minor injury to his back.

Officers from the FPD and Rayburn Correctional Center quickly responded, and after a foot pursuit, two suspects were taken into custody. Neither person had a weapon on them at the time, and a search of the area did not reveal any weapons, FPD officials said.

During the course of the investigation, another individual was located and taken into custody and later charged with disturbing the peace by fighting. The investigation continues and more arrests are likely to follow.

“We will not tolerate anyone fighting or causing a disturbance which would interrupt the fair,” Franklinton Police Chief Olander Smith said. Smith also commended officers for their quick response to the situation and apprehending the persons involved.
