VHS defeated in both games of Fontainebleau Tournament

MANDEVILLE — Varnado went 0-2 in the Fontainebleau Turkey Shootout that took place Nov. 20-22.
Varnado began the event with a 63-5 loss to Slidell in its first game on Nov. 20.
Varnado got off to a tough start, as Slidell scored the game’s first eight points.
Small scored 12 points and Roberson posted eight, as 10 players had points for Slidell.
Varnado got on the board when Quierra Bickham connected with Tanisha Brister and Brister made the layup to pull Varnado to within six with 3:57 left.
Slidell scored six unanswered to end the period.
Varnado’s Jaden Foster hit a free throw and it was 16-3 at the 5:54 mark.
Foster tallied three points for Varnado.
Slidell scored the first half’s final 16 points for a 32-3 lead at the break and led 48-3 through three quarters before going on to the 63-5 win.
Jordan Kauzlarich scored eight points for Slidell.
“This was our first real game. We only had the jamboree, so we had a little time off,” Cashanda Nichols said. “We’ve just got some little adjustments that we need to make. We’ve just got to work a little harder and move a little faster.”
Varnado played two days later and suffered a 74-20 loss to Hammond.
Varnado is competing in the Franklinton Tournament. The team opened the event Wednesday, plays today against Pine at 6 p.m. and will face Slidell tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
