Snow is certainly a rarity in Louisiana, and especially this early in the year. After all, winter doesn’t officially begin until Friday, Dec. 21.
Many locals shared some of their thoughts about the snow on social media, through the Daily News’s Facebook page.
“My kids have wanted so badly to see snow this year that we have scheduled a vacation around New Year’s,” Joanie Knight said. “… and then we wake up this morning to snow in our own front yard!”
Several citizens said that the last time they could remember heavy snow like this was around 2008 or 2009.
“I was excited and up like a kid on Christmas morning,” Chiketa Temple Morris wrote. “It’s also my 41st birthday. Last time I remember snow was 2008, but not as much as today.”
Hannah Stewart Wells said that she woke her daughters up Friday morning by singing “Do You Want to Build a Snowman,” a song from the Disney movie Frozen.
“(It was) something I never thought I would do!” she said.
Young Jayden Love said “I’ve never seen anything like this before!”
“I was very happy to see it. It really lifted my spirits,” Anna LoRee Stogner said.
And Lisa Oliver Sprehe had a concise comment when asked what she thought of Washington Parish turning into a winter wonderland.
“Excited!” she said.
