City of Bogalusa Baseball Registration, Skills

The City of Bogalusa is holding baseball registration and skills assessment for ages 4-12.

In-person signups take place on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Avenue B Sports Complex. Bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate to registration.

Online signups are open through Saturday, Feb. 3 at http://cityofbogalusa.website.siplay.com.

Skills assessment for ages 7-12 is required and takes place Feb. 3.

Ages 7-8 is set for 8 a.m. with 9-10s at 9:30 a.m. and 11-12s scheduled for 11 a.m.

 

Franklinton Youth Soccer Association signups

The Franklinton Youth Soccer Association is holding registration on Saturdays, Jan. 20, 27 and Feb. 3 at the Franklinton Junior High School Cafeteria for boys and girls ages 3-18.

The signups take place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The cost is $55 for ages 3-11 and $65 for 12-18s.

Games are scheduled to start in mid-March, but that is subject to change.

 

USM baseball camps

The Southern Miss baseball program will feature a pair of upcoming baseball camps, including a Winter Showcase as well as the Kid’s Spring Break camp.

The Winter Showcase Camp takes place Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. The date has been moved back a week from its original one as inclement weather is expected in the area this Saturday.

Registration for the camp begins at 11 a.m., that day with the camp starting at noon and run through the completion of the workout.

This camp is designed to allow current high school freshman through junior college sophomore (junior college freshman must be academic qualifier) baseball players the chance to learn the skills needed to compete at the next level while receiving instruction from current Southern Miss coaches, various junior college coaches and other four-year Institutions.

The price is $155 per camper and the cost includes instruction, insurance, and a Southern Miss camp t-shirt. The itinerary will include instruction specific to each participant’s defensive position, improving 60 times and hitting. Any pitcher will be allowed to also participate at their other position.

The camp will be limited to the first 100 applicants and will take place at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.

The Spring Break Kid’s camp is open to all kids ages 6-13 and the four-day camp will run March 12-15 from 9 a.m. until noon each day. The camp is limited to the first 50 applicants and will cost $180. Each camper receives a complimentary t-shirt and insurance. In addition, each camper will receive a ticket for the March 16 Conference USA contest against UTSA and all will get a chance to be on the field with the Golden Eagles during the national anthem, prior to the 6 p.m., contest.

Pearl River Community College Baseball Camp

Pearl River Community College baseball will host a kids hitting camp in late January and early February.

The camp will allow young hitters ages 6-12 to develop proper mechanics from college coaches and players.

Campers will be divided into small age-appropriate groups and taught hitting drills, participate in multiple drill stations and get live reps in batting practice. These stations will take place on the PRCC baseball field and in the indoor batting cages.

The camp is scheduled for four Tuesday nights, beginning Jan. 23 and running through Feb. 13. Each camp runs about 90 minutes, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Cost is $100 for early registration on-line and $125 for walk-up registration on the first day of camp. There is a limit of 72 players. Campers need to bring cleats, tennis shoes, gloves, bats and helmet. Water and a camp shirt will be provided.
