Dear Editor,

On this past Monday, it was discovered that three large commercial batteries had been stolen from a couple of tractors which were parked by the “Widows’ Garden” at E.S.M. Methodist Church on Avenue B, and are used there from time to time in tending the garden. As any farmer can tell you, one of these large commercial batteries these days costs more than most of us boys paid for our sweetheart’s engagement ring, and as the owner, this loss was discomforting to me, to say the least.

On Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., I reported the theft to Police Officer Josh Oalmann, and six hours later, at 2:30 p.m., Sgt. Jeff Bergeron called with the report that the batteries had been recovered, and that the source of my discomfort was enjoying the shelter of the Bogalusa City Jail, thanks to the quick and efficient work of Officer Oalmann.

It still isn’t Mayberry out there, friends, but this is good proof that our police department is trying hard for us, and I want to congratulate Chief Kendall Bullen, and all the others, on this excellent work, and to invite them, and all of you, to come over to our Widows’ Garden in June, to get a mess of sweet corn, squash, and cucumbers, and maybe a tomato or potato or two.
