Robert Johnson

Master Sgt. Robert Ellie Johnson passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018. Robert “Bob” was born In Tylertown, Miss., on March 25, 1936. After graduating high school, joined the United States Air Force (USAF).

Robert was married to Amanda C. Johnson (Sharp) on Dec. 25, 1957. They were married for 60 years and had three children, Robert E. Johnson, James M. Johnson, and Cheryl K. Johnson.

After his retirement from the USAF, Robert worked for the Xerox Corporation.

In 1981, Robert and Amanda fulfilled their lifelong dream of building a home in the Isabel Community where they spent the remainder of their time together. He was very active in the local community and enjoyed volunteer firefighting, playing the guitar, and making people laugh. He was also an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish! Robert loved gardening and spending time with their grandchildren, Brandy Smith and her husband Josh Smith, Amanda (Jodi) Thomas, and Nathan Johnson. Robert was exceptionally fond of his two great grandchildren, Aiden Thomas and Avery Boone.

He is survived by the above as well as four sisters, Ellene Goings, Lois Cooper, Louise (and Mike) Masi, Grace (and Rick) Kisamore, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl M. Johnson (Melton); his father, Ellis R. Johnson; and his sister, Pauline Waldrop.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 15, at Isabel Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Service will be at 2 p.m., with internment to follow at Mizell Cemetery.
