BCS school meetings canceled

The informational parents’ meeting on the status of Northshore Charter School in relation to the Bogalusa City School System did not happen Tuesday as was scheduled, and the one scheduled for next Tuesday has been canceled as well.
In a letter addressed to Bogalusa City Schools parents, the following statement was issued jointly by both the charter school and the school system on the status of the charter school:
“… After meeting on Feb. 15, 2018, with the federal judge presiding over the suit that NCS, Inc., and several parents of current NCS students filed against the Bogalusa City School System (BCSS), NCS and BCSS agreed to a process that will allow NCS to remain open through the end of the 2017-18 school year.
“The determination of whether NCS will continue to operate its current facility under an agreement with BCSS is unknown, and dependent on the decision of the federal district judge. Judge (Lance M.) Africk will hold a hearing in April 2018 on several legal issues that will decide this matter. We are hopeful the judge will make his ruling within several weeks of the hearing and that we will be able to announce plans for the 2018-2019 school year shortly thereafter.
“The children of Bogalusa are entitled to a public education in BCSS. Parents of children currently at NCS have the opportunity and choice to keep their children at NCS for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year. Those that choose to do so will continue to have grades and attendance counted.
“Please be assured that standardized testing will occur as scheduled whether your child attends NCS, transfers to another school (within BCSS), or currently attends a BCSS school.”
Both BCSS Superintendent Lisa Tanner and NCS CEO/Principal Dee Dee McCullough signed the letter.
Any citizens who have additional questions are invited to call Tanner at 985-281-2100, or McCullough at 985-732-0005.
