JROTC shines again: BHS maintains district lead

The Bogalusa High School Jr. ROTC Lumberjack Battalion continued its 2018 drill season by traveling to Northshore High School in Slidell on Saturday, March 10.
The BHS Lumberjack cadets competed against nine other schools: Northshore High, Salmen High, Fontainebleau High, Lakeshore High, Pearl River High, Franklinton High, Mandeville High, Destrehan High, and Petal High from Mississippi.
Drill competition events conducted included: Physical Fitness, Armed Inspection, Regulation and Exhibition; Un-Armed Inspection, Regulation and Exhibition; Color Guard, and the Knockout Drill.
BHS cadet Skyler Payne placed fourth in the Knockout Drill. The Armed Regulation team and Armed Exhibition team each placed third. The Unarmed Regulation team and Unarmed Exhibition team also each placed third, and the Male Color Guard team placed third.
The physical fitness event consisted of two minutes of push-ups and sit-ups, and the 500-yard individual shuttle run.
In the most male push-up category, cadet Juan Martinez placed first and Devonte Jackson placed second. Cadet Juan Martinez placed third in the overall male physical fitness test.
The male PT Team placed third overall in all events.
In the female physical fitness category, cadet Imani Jefferson placed first in most female sit-ups and cadet Jameka Lucas placed first in the fastest 500-yard shuttle run.
Petal High placed first overall, Mandeville High placed second overall, and the Lumberjacks of the BHS Army Jr. ROTC placed third overall. Bogalusa is currently in first place within the Army Northshore District.
The cadets will continue their hard work and are preparing for the next drill competition, which will be held Saturday, March 17, at Fontainebleau High School. The cadets of BHS will be hosting their second annual drill competition at Bogalusa High School on Saturday, March 24.
The final competition will be held at LSU for the LSU Pershing Rifles competition on April 7, in Baton Rouge.
