Judges for the District VI Cleanest City contest came through Bogalusa on Tuesday, viewing the city to see how attractive and litter-free it was.
Although no reporters were allowed to witness the judges’ inspection tour, judge Sonya Avery later told The Daily News that Bogalusa looked “beautiful,” after Avery returned from her inspections.
Bogalusa Mayor Wendy Perrette said, “This contest was for community and employee involvement. We appreciate everyone who got involved.
“Whether we win or lose, we’re already winners. We shouldn’t have to be a part of a contest to clean up our city. I’m proud of where I live, and I want everyone to be, too.
“This is something we started to get involved with again because a little competition will make people want to get involved.”
Perrette said that everyone participated in the event, including adult citizens as well as younger school children.
“Thanks to volunteers, and I’m glad that all these individuals and groups will be working on their adopted spots throughout the year,” she said. “Next year we will have a jump start on it.”
The contest winner is scheduled to be announced the week of April 16-20.
