Peace Officers Memorial Day is held annually in the United States in honor of law enforcement officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. According to the organization Concerns of Police Survivors, about 140-160 officers are killed in the line of duty each year and their families and co-workers are left to cope with the tragic loss. Thus far in 2018, there have been 53 line of duty deaths, including one in Louisiana.
Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal and his staff will pay tribute to Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies who have given their lives in service to the citizens of our parish. A special observance will be held at the Sheriff’s Office in Franklinton on Friday, May 18, at 10 a.m.
At that time, a wreath will be placed at the “Fallen Heroes” memorial located in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office. The public is invited to attend this ceremony and join Sheriff Seal in honoring the fallen heroes of Washington Parish.
