On Sunday, June 3 at 12:39 p.m., officers of the Bogalusa Police Department responded to a residence in the 300 block of White St in reference to a domestic disturbance, according to Maj. Percy Knight, of the BPD.
“The female victim called and told the BPD dispatch that her boyfriend had struck her in the face and he was attempting to remove her things from the residence,” Knight said.
“Officers arrived at the residence, knocked on the door but didn’t get a response. Officers could smell the odor of burnt marijuana while standing outside the door of the residence. Officers spent several minutes repeatedly knocking on the door in attempt to check on the condition of the victim.
“After several more minutes, the boyfriend of the victim, identified as Demaine M. Washington, 36, of Bogalusa, came to the door, stepped
outside of the residence and immediately shut and locked the door.
Officers asked Washington the location of the victim and he stated that she was not in the house but they could go inside and look for her.
Washington unlocked the door and let the officers enter the residence.
“Once inside the residence, officers observed in plain view razor blades with cigars that had been cut open and the tobacco removed, which is commonly replaced with marijuana once the tobacco is removed. Upon checking the bathroom for the victim, officers observed the toilet lid open with remnants of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana still present in the bowl. Officers checked the kitchen area for the
victim and located a rifle lying on the floor in plain view. Lying next to the rifle was a box that contained multiple loaded magazines for the rifle, loose ammunition, a handgun, a bullet-proof vest and digital scales which is commonly use for the sale of drugs.
“Officers learned that Washington was a convicted felon.
“A small coin purse was located that contained a plastic bag with several pills that were identified as Oxycodone Hydrochloride. Also inside the coin purse was 6 smaller plastic bags that contained suspected cocaine.”
Washington was placed under arrest and booked on the charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal carrying of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, resisting an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, 2 counts of possession of schedule II drugs, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, unlawful use of body armor, obstruction of justice, and a probation and parole hold, Knight said.
