Bogalusa head football coach David Roberts has resigned.
Roberts, who lives in Slidell, is going to Slidell High School to become the football team’s linebacker coach and he will be teaching P.E.
“It was a real hard decision,” Roberts said. “Basically, it came down to it being so close to the house and having a little more time for my family and myself. That 100 miles of driving each day wears on you a little bit. I’ve enjoyed my time at Bogalusa. It was a wonderful experience.
“I’ve got a bunch of lifetime friends from up there. I appreciate the kids, the coaches, the administration and the support staff working hard and it was just a personal decision.”
Roberts spent the last three seasons at Bogalusa High School and earned a 12-20 record, including the playoffs. He guided the Lumberjacks to the Class 3A state playoffs in two of his three seasons, with the team advancing as far as the quarterfinals.
The Lumberjacks captured the District 7-3A title his first season, which was in 2015.
“Coach Roberts is a good coach and a dedicated coach,” Bogalusa athletic director Michael Cummings said. “He was a hard worker. One of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen in the school system. He’s going to be missed, but I know he’s happy going where he’s at.
“He’s going to be five minutes from his new school. All good luck to him and I’m sure I’ll keep up with him through text messages and whatever down the road.”
