Mattie Mingo

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).

Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth Spikes Mingo was born Aug. 28, 1918, to the late Johnny and Pearle Mingo.

In her early 20s, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Lawrence M. Spikes Sr. To their union six children were born, after separation and divorce in 1958 she married the late Mr. J.D. Mingo and to this union two children were born.

She was a member of Center Baptist Church in Angie for over 70 years, where she was a member of the choir and usher. She also was a member of the Eastern Stars.

On July 7, 2018, at 2 p.m., the Lord called her home. She went peacefully in her sleep at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Delester and Cleopatria Mingo.

She leaves to mourn her passing: four sons and a daughter, Johnny Ree (Anette) Spikes of Bogalusa, Joe Nathan (special friend Donna Burnette) Spikes of Angie, William J. Spikes of Angie, Delester (Cleopatria) Mingo of Bogalusa, and Arnetta Mingo of Angie; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a special sister-in-law, Delores Mingo of Angie.

She was preceded in death by one daughter and two sons, L.C. Amos Spikes Sr., Pearl E. Spikes-Robinson and Lawrence M. Spikes Jr.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 14, from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa, with the Rev. A.R. Moses officiating.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Bogalusa is in charge of arrangements.

Interment will be in the Live Oak Cemetery in Angie.
