USM Camps
University of Southern Mississippi’s baseball program will hold two more camps this summer at Pete Taylor Park, including a Summer Showcase and the third annual Father-Son Camp.
The Summer Showcase camp is designed to allow current high school freshman through junior college sophomore (junior college freshman must be academic qualifier) baseball players the skills needed to compete at the next level. Participants will be given a chance to have their skills toned by college coaches and receive specific instruction to their defensive position, speed training to improve their 60 time, as well as hitting at Pete Taylor Park. Any pitcher who is a dual player will be able to participate at both positions. The camp is set to take place July 21 and registration begins at 11 a.m. and the clinic starts at noon and end when all camp participants have completed the session. Lunch will not be provided. The camp is limited to the first 100 applicants. The cost is $155 and includes insurance, instruction and a camp T-shirt.
The Father/Son camp is open to kindergarten through eighth graders and will provide an outstanding bonding opportunity for the parent and child while also learning the game of baseball and developing an understanding of key fundamentals in maximizing their child’s full potential. Teaching areas will include pitching, hitting, catching, infield and outfield play. The goal of this one-day camp is to provide answers and training solutions to the questions that are most often asked by today’s fathers and youth league players. The camp takes place Aug. 25 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with check-in at 12:15 p.m. The cost is $100 for both child and parent and an additional $25 for each additional child. The fee includes a free t-shirt for all campers.
