Daniel Donald Hanemann, a resident of Bogalusa, died surrounded by his family in Hammond, the exact town where 45 years earlier, he had met the love of his life, Marcelle Hanemann. He passed at 7:05 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, 2018.

Danny was a talented, brilliant and roguishly funny man with a lion’s heart who loved his family fiercely. He was an actor, builder, photographer, celebrated friend and beloved father and husband. He will be deeply missed by an army of friends and family including his granddaughter, Isabella Danielle Swire, who delighted in being the only person who could successfully boss him around, his daughter Brook Hanemann, who could never articulate the depths of her gratitude for her Papa’s hand in her life, and by his wife Marcelle, for whom he hung the stars and crafted the constellations.

His life will be celebrated at a ceremony in Covington on the last weekend of October, with details to come.

Though we mourn his loss and miss his deep loving voice, he was more apt to have a twinkle in his eye than a tear. He would have thought it appropriate to close his obituary with his favorite deathbed quote attributed by some to playwright and poet Oscar Wilde who humorously said, “Either these curtains go or I do.”

From those who achingly miss him already, we may add Shakespeare’s quote from Hamlet — “Goodnight, sweet prince: And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
