Varnado’s Wildcats will get the 2018 regular season underway with a road game against Albany tonight at 7.
Varnado is coming off of a 30-0 loss to Franklinton in the Washington Parish Jamboree last week.
“Last week was embarrassing,” Varnado first-year coach Anthony Hicks said. “There was minimal effort as a team combined. Bad decisions cost us. We knew their depth would play a part in the game but at the end of the day it’s a lesson learned and we are 0-0.
“We have a lot of new faces on both sides of the ball. We hope to play better against Albany with help of (Adrian) Bickham, both Peters (Jaylen and Zantonio), (Brandon) Lee and a stout defense.”
Last week, Kim McGowan passed for 69 yards.
Korterrius Mingo caught one pass for 26 yards. Zantonio Peters had two receptions for 18 yards. Jaylen Peters had a reception for 14 yards and Caleb Allen recorded a catch for 12.
Defensively, Kennis Loper picked off a pass for Varnado.
These teams met last season and Albany won, 25-16.
Albany played Salmen in a jamboree last week and were defeated by the Spartans, 21-0.
Last season Albany reached the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs, which followed an 8-2 regular season.
