John Walz

John Nuttall Walz, 94, a resident of Hattiesburg, Miss., passed away on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at Asbury Hospice House in Hattiesburg. He was born in New Orleans on Sept. 8, 1924. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Elaine Cooper Walz of Hattiesburg; two sons, Randall John Walz (Grace Fergeson) of Bogalusa, and Mark Fletcher Walz of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Cynthia Walz Hatcher (Wade) of Norcross, Ga.; a son-in-law, Gabriel Attal of Houston; and nine grandchildren, Anne Walz, John Walz, Dany Attal, Sophia Attal, Roby Attal, Laine Hatcher, Philip Hatcher, Hunter Walz and Harrison Walz.

He is preceded in death by two daughters, Elizabeth Anne Walz and Marilyn Kay Walz Attal; his father, John Nuttall Walz; his mother, Mary Pearl Ingram Kemp; a sister, Elizabeth “Patsy” Berteau; and a brother, Daniel Walz.

Visitation will be held at Elizabeth Sullivan United Methodist Church, located at 510 Ave. B in Bogalusa, on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Bill Moon officiating. Interment will follow at McGehee Cemetery.
