Margaret Breitling

Margaret Marie Furley Brister Breitling passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at Chateau Living Center in Kenner, at the age of 104. She was the devoted wife to the deceased Jewel G. Brister for 37 years and Joseph N. Breitling for 10 years, both of Bogalusa.

She was the loving mother of Lynda Kay Brister Johnston (Henry) of River Ridge, and Jim Brister (Joy Doherty) of Prescott, Ariz.; beloved grandmother of Andy (Marietta) Johnston of River Ridge, Melissa Johnston of Baton Rouge, and Michael (Brandy) Johnston of Metairie; and great-grandmother of Lilli and Josie Johnston. She is also survived by two stepdaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was born on Sept. 10, 1914, in McComb, Miss., to the late Thomas and Julia Furley.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Louise Haffey (Claude) of McComb, Dell Griffis (Mart) of Meridian, Miss., and Polly Matthews (Art) of St. Louis, Mo.

She lived in Bogalusa from 1962 to 2007 when she moved to Kenner to be closer to her daughter in River Ridge. Margaret loved to play cards, especially bridge, loved music, and was active in several ministries at Annunciation Catholic Church in Bogalusa. She enjoyed traveling and made friends wherever she went. Her main passion was caring for her family and demonstrating unconditional love.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Chateau Living Center in Kenner, for all of their love, care, and support for the last eight years.

Services will be at St. Alphonsus Church, located at 509 Delaware Ave. in McComb, on Wednesday, Sept. 26, beginning at 11 a.m. with a mass at noon. Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.
