Week 10 of the LHSAA season is here and teams are either looking to improve their playoff positions, or qualify for the postseason.
The four LHSAA teams from Washington Parish will all be in action Friday night at 7 p.m. Two local teams are attempting to make history while two others are celebrating Senior Night.
Bogalusa is attempting to force a three-way tie for the District 7-3A title while Pine is attempting to post the best regular season record in its football program’s history.
Both of those contests are on the road.
Franklinton and Varnado are celebrating Senior night, as the two teams are at home for the final time in the 2018 regular season.

Bogalusa at Archbishop Hannan
Bogalusa’s Lumberjacks are headed to Archbishop Hannan to face the Hawks in the final District 7-3A contest of the season on Friday.
Bogalusa begins the week with a 4-4 overall record and 2-1 in district. Hannan is 9-0 overall and 3-0 in league play. The Hawks are the fourth ranked team in the Class 3A Louisiana Sports Writers Association Poll.
“It’s always hard getting your team back on track after losing an emotional game on Friday,” Bogalusa coach Adam Brumfield said. “Friday’s over with, so now we have to move on to Hannan. Hannan is a tough team, they’re undefeated, their coaches do a good job teaching technique and coaching technique. We’ll have to go out and play disciplined and execute and if we do that, we’ll have a chance to win.”
This game is a big contest.
If Bogalusa wins, the Lumberjacks will finish in a three-way tie for first place in the district with Hannan and Jewel Sumner. Sumner played its final league game last week and defeated Bogalusa, 7-6.
Last week was the fourth-straight game the Lumberjacks have allowed fewer than 15 points. In that time, Bogalusa has allowed 45 total points with just 38 coming in regulation.
“Our defensive coaches are doing a great job,” Brumfield said. “Our kids have been playing physical and executing their assignments. I couldn’t be anymore pleased with them. They’ve given us an opportunity to win every game. Kelton Harry is our middle linebacker. He does a great job of getting our calls in and getting guys lined up and he puts our guys in a position to make plays.”
Harry led the team in tackles last week with 13 tackles.
Talik Williams posted eight stops. Williams also ran for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Chas Smith, Michael O’Ree and DeMarcus Spikes all had seven. Smith had a catch for seven yards and ran for eight. Spikes made a catch for 10 yards.
Clydeterrious Thompson recovered two fumbles for Bogalusa.
Overall, the unit allowed 180 rushing yards and held Jewel Sumner to 1-for-4 passing for four yards.
Offensively, Josh Taylor threw for 22 yards.
Raheem Roberts made one catch for five yards.

Bogalusa was defeated by Jewel Sumner, 7-6, in overtime. Archbishop Hannan defeated Loranger, 36-28.

Bogalusa lost to Archbishop Hannan, 30-27, in overtime.

Pine at Pope John Paul II
Pine’s Raiders are headed to Slidell to play against Pope John Paul II in District 9-2A action Friday at 7 p.m.
Pine enters this week with a 6-3 overall record and 4-2 in district play. Pope John Paul II is 2-7 overall and 0-6 in district.
The Raiders are on a three-game winning streak. A win by the Raiders would give Pine its best regular season record in the football program’s history.
“It’s a very big game,” Pine coach Bradley Seal said. “We have a chance to go in the playoffs on a four-game winning streak.”
Last week, the Raiders had a balanced offense with 252 passing yards and 252 rushing yards.
Logan Temples threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns.
Running back/linebacker Jaheim Williams ran for 96 yards and a touchdown.
“On defense, he just seems to have a nose for the football and on offense, he’s been running the ball really well,” Seal said.
Logan Leger tallied 94 yards rushing and a touchdown. Leger also intercepted a pass on defense.
Adrianuen Johnson ran for 56 yards.
On the receiving side, Markell Cotton caught six passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Jordan Anderson posted four catches for 75 yards and a score.
Drake Westmoreland had a reception for 47 yards.
Dakota Brooks intercepted a pass for the second game in a row.
Three Bogalusa residents play for Pope John Paul II — George Arata, Will Culpepper and Seth McClendon.
Arata is a freshman quarterback while Culpepper and McClendon are eighth-grade linemen.
“I think all three of them are going to be really good football players,” Pope John Paul II coach Charlie Cryer said. “Seth McClendon and Will Culpepper will play offensive line and defensive line for us. They’re both hard-working kids and they’ll be good players for us. I think they’re going to be big as age catches up with them. They’re only 13,14 year olds.
“George has stepped up. He played three or four games for us at cornerback when we lost our corner and he played well there. Our quarterback broke his collarbone and he’s come in and has done a great job. He’s started two games and played a half for another.”

Last week
Pine topped St. Thomas Aquinas, 32-28, while Pope John Paul II lost to Northlake Christian School, 22-9.

Last year
Pine defeated Pope John Paul II, 20-6.

Pine has won three of the last four match-ups. Prior to that, Pope John Paul II had won four of the last five, going back to 2009.

Pearl River at Franklinton
Franklinton’s Demons are celebrating Senior Night on Friday with a contest against Pearl River.
The Demons enter this week with a 4-5 overall record and 1-1 in district. Pearl River is 6-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.
“Obviously at the this time of the year, you want to be playing your best football whether it’s the end of district or in the playoffs. It’s also Senior Night and it’s important to those guys as well. We want to come out and put on a good performance and build off of where we were last week,” Franklinton coach Jonathan Barber said.
Jasper LaSalle reached the 1,000-passing yard mark last week and enters the week with 1,053 yards through the air with eight touchdowns. LaSalle has also run for 166 yards and three touchdowns.
Mike Martin is closing in on 1,000 rushing yards, and currently has 916 with 15 touchdowns. He also has eight catches for 44 yards.
Shayland Allen and Duke Bell lead the team in receptions with 26 each.
Allen has 323 receiving yards with a touchdown while Bell has 288 yards and three scores.
Kian Conerly begins the week with 13 catches for 234 yards and three scores to go with 240 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. He returned an interception 97 yards for a touchdown.
Also defensively last week, Hayden Cotton intercepted a pass.

Last week
Franklinton was victorious over Salmen, 36-8. Pearl River lost to Lakeshore, 45-14.

Last year
Franklinton defeated Pearl River, 37-7.

Recent history
The teams have played every year since at least 2009 and the Demons have won every game.

Mangham at Varnado
It is Senior Night for Varnado’s Wildcats, as they will take on Mangham Friday night at 7 p.m. in non-district action.
Varnado is 2-6 while Mangham enters with a 2-7 record.
Varnado has won two of its last three games.
The Wildcats defense has been solid of late. Last week, Varnado allowed just 126 yards of total offense. Over the last three weeks, Varnado has allowed 0, 24 and 10 points, respectively.
Caleb Allen ran for 117 yards and a touchdown in a 12-10 win over Houma Christian on Friday night. Allen also threw a touchdown pass to Trevin Haynes.

Last week
Varnado defeated Houma Christian School, 12-10 while Mangham lost to Vidalia, 40-14.

Last year
Varnado defeated Mangham, 22-0.
