Varnado suffered a 28-12 loss to Sicily Island in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs on the road Friday.
“We started off the game really flat,” Varnado coach Anthony Hicks said. “They jumped out on us 21-0 really quick.”
Jaheim Hooks caught a touchdown pass from Kim McGowan and Jaylen Peters scored on a touchdown run to account for Varnado’s touchdowns.
No. 18 Varnado finished the season with a 2-8 record.
Sicily Island improved to 6-5 and advanced to the regional round to face second-seeded Haynesville. Haynesville is 10-0 and had a bye in the opening round of the postseason.
