Ben’s Ford falls to Lamar Christian

Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Lady Eagles got off to a tough start in a 50-18 loss to Lamar Christian School in a district game at home Friday.
Lamar scored the game’s first nine points, as they used a pressure, trapping defense to help create turnovers.
Lamar won the tip. Kalie Blackmon was fouled and hit one of her two free throws. Rebekah Engle scored the next six points on field goals to make it 7-0 with 5:34 left in the first quarter. Catherine Hannabass capped off the run with two free throws with 4:32 left.
Ben’s Ford got on the board when Kelci Freeman made two free throws a minute later to make it a 9-2 game.
“They’re a good team. They’ll be playing for the state championship this year,” Ben’s Ford coach Mark McGehee said. “We’ve just got to keep working, start getting better and don’t let the pressure bother us.”
It was 17-4 after the first quarter and Lamar was up 36-7 at halftime in the 50-18 game.
Bailey Stewart was Ben’s Ford’s leading scorer with seven points to go with a rebound and three steals.
Freeman tallied four points, a rebound and a steal.
Celeste Crowe posted four points, and a rebound.
Abby Smith recorded two points, two rebounds, and a steal.
Alaina McClelland had a point, three boards, an assist and she blocked shots.
Valeria Paige had two boards and two steals while Baileigh Crain added a rebound.
Engle and Hannabass tied to lead all scorers with 19 points. Hannabass made three 3-pointers while Engle made one.
Rachael Pitts and Blackmon tallied five points each and Becca Chatham added two.
On Monday, Ben’s Ford was defeated by Centreville Academy, 45-33, on the road in district play.
McClelland missed a double-double by just one rebound. She posted 18 points and nine boards to go with three steals.
Freeman tallied nine points, three rebounds, an assist and she blocked a shot.
Crowe recorded four points, eight boards and a steal.
Bailey Stewart had two points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals and she blocked a shot.
Paige posted four rebounds, an assist and three steals while Smith pulled down six boards and made a steal and Dani Descant added a rebound for the Lady Eagles.
