Pine’s McKenzie wins Monday’s league play

Pine’s Tanner McKenzie was victorious in the Northshore Golf League on Monday at Oak Knoll Country Club in Hammond.
McKenzie posted a score of 40 in the nine-hole tournament.
St. Thomas Aquinas’ Tim Tran was second with a 46. Doyle teammates Thomas Hodges and Garrett Scarle tied for third with a 52 and Albany’s Micah Cleveland, St. Thomas Aquinas’ Nick Faulk and Doyle’s Weston Severio all posted a 54 to round out the top five in a field of 18.
Also for Pine, McCauley Keaton and Kyle Sirgo tied at 60, with Javarius Cooper at 61 and Rehys Templet posting a 62.
The top four golfers accounted for team scores.
St. Thomas Aquinas won the team competition with a 213, with three schools eligible for team honors.
Doyle’s 218 was second and Pine tallied a 221 in the close competition.
St. Thomas Aquinas’ Abby Portranent won the girls event with a 54 over the nine holes with four golfers competing.
Pine’s Brookyln Thomas posted a 60 for second, followed by Deniqua Hewitt’s 62 and Dalanna Rester’s 63.
Pine was the only school eligible for team honors and they recorded a 122, as the top two golfers’ scores were used for the team competition.
