Local authors to hold book signings

Local authors Allan and Sally Slade have a number of new titles just in time for Easter, and they plan to continue adding to their already impressive list of books.
The Slades will have a book signing on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at McMillan’s Nursery and Gifts, located at 130 Cumberland St. in Bogalusa. There will also be Easter cake for the kids.
The authors will also have a pair of book signings in the coming weeks, both from noon until 4 p.m. They will have a signing at Barnes and Noble in Gulfport, Miss., on April 13, and at Books-A-Million in Hammond on April 20.
While many books will be available, there will likely be a special focus on the couple’s recently completed Easter-themed children’s books. They are “The Night Before Easter” and “What Do Bunnies Eat?”
The Slades said they have completed 15 books in a little less than two years and are working on three more, and have many others planned. Allan Slade said that they are even checking with the Guinness Book of World Records to see if they might qualify as the most productive authors ever.
But record or no record, the Slades said they are enjoying writing books. While many are for children, they also have some for adults.
The focus of the book-writing is not to make money, but to “give something back to Bogalusa,” they said.
“We read them to the kids at schools and the library, and they just love them,” Allan Slade said.
Slade also said that they have donated books to patients at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans. In addition, they have used proceeds from book sales to quietly help the needy in the community, Sally Slade said.
“We were able to help someone get a bed set the other day,” she said. “We try to do what we can to help out in our neighborhood and community.”
The Slades’ books can be purchased at local merchants as well as online through Amazon.com.
