Coastal Alabama Community College-North’s Jamarian Crain had a solid season last year and has improved on it this season.
The 2017 Franklinton graduate put up solid numbers last year, hitting .317 with a .439 on-base percentage, .430 slugging percentage, 44 runs scored and he was 20 of 27 in stolen bases in 46 games. He drove in 11 runs, doubled 10 times and tripled three times.
This year, Crain is doing even better.
Crain is hitting .385 with a .477 on-base percentage and .505 slugging percentage. The sophomore has scored 40 runs in 36 games. He has four doubles, three triples, a homer and 19 runs batted in. Crain’s stolen bases are up, as he has 29 steals and has been caught just twice. Crain has just 15 strikeouts in 133 plate appearances and he has walked 16 times.
He talked about what has helped him do so well.
“Taking advantage of what I’m getting,” Crain said. “If the third baseman is playing back, I know I can easily get a bunt down or if he’s playing in, it opens up the field. I’m seeing the ball better and taking a lot more pitches. I’m just taking whatever they give me.”
Crain said he probably took in a lot because he felt like he could have done way more in his freshman year than he did.
“I’m a lot more confident and more comfortable than I was last year. I had a lot more nerves last year and I’ve learned how to calm down,” Crain said.
Coastal Alabama is 29-19 this season and has won 12 in a row. The team will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 27, against Enterprise State Community College on the road starting at noon.
