Bogalusa’s Lumberjacks hosted Salmen in a scrimmage that took place on Friday.
“Spring is always an exciting time of the year for me, for several reasons,” Bogalusa coach Adam Brumfield said. “As a coach, you have had time to recharge yourself with some time off from the past season. Also, it’s your first chance to see your new team as well as who is going to step up as your leaders and key players.”
Brumfield said he felt the scrimmage went well.
He said that the Lumberjacks moved the ball pretty well offensively.
Josh Taylor accounted for four touchdowns. He threw for three and ran for a score.
Brumfield said Taylor made some nice plays with both his arm and his legs.
Tyrese Rousell had two touchdown catches and Raheem Roberts made one touchdown reception. Both are returning starters.
The team has a pair of running backs that split time in Ladarious Spikes and Talik Williams. Both tallied a touchdown. Brumfield said he has a lot of confidence in both.
Brumfield said the team returns four starters on the offensive line and said they have gotten stronger in the weight room. Brumfield said assistant coach Lester Jenkins has done a great job with them.
Defensively, the Lumberjacks’ starters gave up just one score.
“We had a lot kids to evaluate on the defensive side of the ball but I have a lot of confidence in coach (Randall) Ginn and out defensive staff to get the right kids in the right positions to succeed,” Brumfield said. “We lost some good linebackers from last year but we have some young kids who have stepped up. We started three freshmen, which as a coach, can make you a little nervous, but I thought they played well for the most part.
“We still have a lot of improvements to make, but I was very pleased with our performance. Bogalusa has struggled in years past with attendance during the summer. My main focus now is to change that and I feel like we have some leaders on our team who can keep us going in the right direction.”
