Jimmie Stokes Sr.

Mr. Jimmie Marshall Stokes Sr. passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at his home in Franklinton, at the age of 74. Jimmie was a native of Independence, and a long time resident of Franklinton. He was a member of the Christian Non-Denominational Church in Bogalusa. He was a member of the Merchant Marines, where he served three years. He proudly served two tours in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. Jimmie also served six years in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He served three years as Post Commander of Disabled American Veterans.
Jimmie is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Pratt Stokes of Franklinton; one son, Jimmie Marshall Stokes Jr. of Franklinton; one daughter, Kimberly Ann Stokes Dickens of Tylertown, Miss.; two brothers, Douglas Baker of Pensacola, Fla., and Edgar Baker of Independence; one sister, Bonnie Correnti; five grandchildren, Heather Elizabeth Smith and her husband Cory, Kevin Bennett and his wife Rachel, Jimmie M. Stokes III, Kayla Bennett and Joshua Stokes; and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Stokes and Hazel Golmon Shelby; two brothers, James Stokes and Martin Stokes; one sister and a daughter-in-law, Sonia Hodges Cooper.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home on Sunday, June 2, with visitation resuming at noon, until service time at 2 p.m., with Brother Carl Beech officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Sheridan Cemetery in Franklinton, with full military rites preformed by American Legion Post 24. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 1, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.
