Jimmy Dale Brooks, 38, a resident of Thomas, died early Monday morning June 10, 2019, following an ATV accident, doing what he loved, which was spending time in the fox pen with his dogs and friends.

Jimmy Dale loved his dogs and had them for any type of hunting including fox hounds, coon hounds, deer hounds and many beagles. His favorite place to be was in the woods when “they got rollin” on the chase. Jimmy also had hundreds of chickens and many other farm animals. He had recently retired after a career with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. Jimmy always had a kind heart and cared for those in need during tough times or during a stay in the hospital.

He is survived by a son, Zachary Brooks of Thomas; a daughter, Faith Brooks of Thomas; parents, Jimmy G. Brooks and Adrine Sumrall Brooks of Pine; sister and brother-in-law, Melanie and Steve Lott of Franklinton; fiancé, Heidi Thomas and her sons Devin Thomas and D.J. Thomas; former wife and mother of his children, Amy Joann Gaines Brooks of Pine; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Sheila Gaines and their children, Kevin and Vickie Gaines, Tracy and Chad Thomas and their families; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tyler Thomas, Tori Thomas, Katie Thomas; nieces and nephews, Kassi Seal, Camrin Seal, Anna Kate Thomas, Addisyn Thomas, Audrey Thomas; grandmother, Pauline Mulford; grandmother-in-law, Odeal Gaines; special friends, Drew Taylor, Ed Scott; and also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dorman Sumrall; grandparents, Hulon Brooks and Christine Tarver Brooks; an aunt, Irene Blalock; and many other family members.

Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Thursday, June 13, from 5 p.m. until 10 a.m. on Friday, June 14. A funeral service was held in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, with the Rev. Jerry Cox and the Rev. W.J. Holland officiating. Burial followed in the Faith Tabernacle Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Drew Taylor, Justin Cleland, Jason Bankston, Matt Polk, Chuck Thomas, Mike Ingram, Heath Spears and Sam Bailey. Honorary pallbearers were Vance Curtis, Wayne Gaines, Devin Thomas and D.J. Thomas.
