Bowling Green is playing in the Class AAA Championship.
The Lady Bucs split two games on Saturday in the Class AAA Tournament at the Magee Sportsplex in Mississippi and then needed to go undefeated at 3-0 on Monday to advance to the finals.
They did just that, and are now playing for the title.
“That was ultimately our goal for the season was to make it to the final two and the best two out of three series and then see what happens when we get there,” Bowling Green School coach David Hood Burris said. “That was one of our goals. We’ve got a shot with Clinton Christian. We’re 1-1 against them. We’ve got a good challenge on our hands. They’ve got five players committed to play in college.”
Bowling Green faces Clinton Christian Academy in a best-of-three beginning Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Game one takes place on Oct. 2 at Bowling Green School. Game two, and if necessary, game three, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Hinds Community College at 5 p.m., and, if needed, game three will follow.
Bowling Green began the tournament with a 10-6 victory over Lee Academy.
Landry Dupont posted a hit, which was a three-run double. She also scored two runs.
Kylee Burris had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Cassidy Spears recorded two hits, two runs and a run batted in.
KaKa Seal went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Anna Claire Crowe and Morgan Carpenter tallied a hit and a run scored each.
Madelyn Burch had a hit and drove in a run.
Julia Berggren posted a hit in the win.
The next game was an 8-0 loss to Clinton Christian Academy.
Burris, Carpenter and Berggren all had one hit.
The Lady Buccaneers opened Monday’s play with an 8-1 victory over Marshall Academy.
Spears posted two hits with an RBI and two runs scored. The run batted in came on a solo homer.
Burch had a hit and three runs batted in.
Dupont tallied a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
Dixie Camaille walked three times.
Burch threw six shutout innings, allowing six hits with nine strikeouts and no walks.
Bowling Green followed up the victory with a 13-7 win over Lee Academy.
Camaille went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer. Camaille drove in four runs and scored a run.
Dupont posted three hits with three runs and an RBI.
Spears tallied a pair of hits with two runs, two runs batted in and she walked twice.
Carpenter had two hits with a pair of runs batted in and a run scored.
Burch recorded two hits in the victory.
Burch also tallied 10 strikeouts in 5-1/3 innings.
The Lady Buccaneers advanced to the finals with a 10-0 victory over Tri-County Academy in six innings.
Spears went 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored. The homer was a walkoff.
Crowe tallied three hits and two runs scored.
Burch posted two hits and two RBIs.
Camaille had a hit, two runs scored and a run batted in.
Burris recorded a hit with a run and an RBI.
Dupont tallied a hit and a run scored.
Carpenter had a hit and an RBI.
Burch allowed no runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts in six innings.
