Alvin Ellery Hughes was born on Jan. 3, 1958, to Rosemary Clark Hughes and Alvin Richardson. Alvin grew up in Richardsontown in Bogalusa, with his grandparents, Ulysses “Lish” Clark and Willie J. Clark. He passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019.

Alvin graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1976. Immediately after graduation, Alvin went to work at Bogalusa Paper Mill and after a 33 years at the mill he retired from International Paper.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Vanessa Stewart Hughes; daughter, Shiquetta Willett Hughes; son, Alvin Ellery (Tiffany) Hughes Jr.; mother-in-law, Helen Stewart; his grandchildren, Zamir Rashard Harry, Alvin Ellery Hughes III, Ladarious Travon Fland, and NiKeria Tion Anderson; siblings, Jill Hughes (James) Nickerson, Barry (Greta) Richardson, Vergie Beverly, and Cynthia (Ronney) Butler-McIntyre; nieces and nephews, Roniqua Joie Toler Watkins, Alisha Cherise Toler, James Jerrod Spikes, Kyra Jillange Spikes, Taryn Ariel Spikes, Jason Jarrell Spikes, Jamie Nickerson, Justin Garth Hughes Jr., TerreJean Hughes, and Jaren Nickerson, Brittni Richardson, Brandi Richardson, and Dion Richardson; and host of other cousins he considered to be his sisters and brothers; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Talisa Brigette Hughes; sister, Lynne Marie Hughes Toler; brother, Justin Garth Hughes Sr.; mother, Rosemary Clark Hughes; father, Melvin Hughes; paternal father, Alvin Richardson; grandparents, Ulysses “Lish” Clark and Willie J. Clark; nephews, James Nickerson Jr., Jalen Nickerson; great-nephew, Dallas Charles Smoot; very special cousin, Byron Johnson, Keith Johnson, and George Johnson.

Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 19, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Bogalusa.

The funeral service will be Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Bogalusa. Interment will be in the Bogalusa Cemetery.
