Lydia Ann “Jody” Cowart Moses was born to the late Gloria Dean Cowart and the late Andrew Lester Jones on Dec. 7, 1954, in Bogalusa. Lydia became affectionately known as “Jody.” On Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019, she received eternal peace.
She completed her spiritual journey under the leadership of Rev. George Burris of Historic St. James Baptist Church in Madisonville.
In 1972, Lydia graduated from Bogalusa High School. She worked for many years in the Bogalusa City School System and with Security Insurance Company, which made her a known face in the community. She will also be remembered for the work that she did for the Washington Parish Summer Youth Camps and local football camps.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Lubertha “Mama Tish” Curry; grandmother, Bessie Curry; her mother, Gloria Cowart; her father, Andrew Jones; a sister, Jacqueline Moore; a brother, Andrew Cowart; special aunts, Katherine Smith and Annie Lee Jackson; a special uncle, Horace Davis; and a special cousin, David Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three sons, Napoleon (Stacia) Moses of Baker, Robert (Demetria) Moses of Houston, Texas, and Rodney (Brittany) Brown Jr. of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren; a sister, Emily Smith-Costello of Belleville, Ill.; a brother, Victor Cowart of Baton Rouge; and a host of devoted friends and family.
The visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 17, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with the family hour following from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa.
The funeral will be at noon Friday, Oct. 18, at Bethlehem Family Life Center, located at 837 E. Seventh St. in Bogalusa, with the Rev. Christopher Matthews, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Smith, eulogist. Interment will be in Bogalusa Cemetery.
