District Attorney Warren Montgomery’s Office hosted its annual training for criminal justice system professionals on Oct. 29 and Oct. 31 at the Bogue Chitto State Park Conference Center.
The Lewis V. Murray III Memorial Training For Law Enforcement, Prosecutors And Judges drew participants from the Louisiana State Park Rangers, Department of Corrections and Public Safety, Louisiana Probation and Parole Office, Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, Bogalusa Police Department, and Franklinton Police Department.
Featured speakers included Assistant District Attorneys David Merlin Duke, Shea Penton, David Craig, Iain Dover and David Weilbaecher; Joseph Dominick of the Florida Parishes Detention Center; Susan Johnannsen of the State of Louisiana, Community Forensic Services; and Stephen Allport and Robert Weir of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The speakers covered a range of topics, including “Juvenile Delinquency and Detention,” “Tactics Used at Criminal Trial,” “New Developments in the Law,” “Building a Sex Offense Prosecution Case,” “Mental Illness in the Criminal Justice System,” and the “Policies and Procedures of the Immigration and Custom Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security.”
The free training was open to anyone employed in the criminal justice system. It is named in honor of the late Lewis Murray III, the longtime Assistant District Attorney who headed the Washington Parish District Attorney’s Office until his death in April of 2018.
