A married couple, Joshua Michael Abelseth, 33, and Jennifer Stewart Abelseth, 31, are now in custody in the Washington Parish Jail. Jennifer Abelseth was transferred from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on Nov. 19 to join her husband who was incarcerated on Nov. 8. Both remain in jail on four charges of simple kidnapping. Bond for each is $30,000.
The kidnapping ordeal began in early November when the Abelseths absconded with their four children who were in the court ordered custody of their grandparents. The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office investigation division tracked them to Alabama and then back to Louisiana before their capture.
“We are glad to have both of these folks in our jail,” stated Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal. “Our investigators did an excellent job in staying on top of this matter until the children were safely returned home and both kidnappers were in jail. This matter is now in the hands of the District Attorney.”
