Last Friday, the Sullivan Vocational Foundation, Inc., celebrated 20 years of existence by awarding scholarships to students at Northshore Technical Community College.
The Sullivan Vocational Foundation was founded in 1999 as a result of a donation from the estate of Mrs. Lucy Lee Robbins of Bogalusa. It was “Mrs. Lucy’s” desire that these funds be available for scholarships and educational needs of students at the NTCC-Sullivan Campus. A Board of Trustees was established to oversee all funds and ensure that all funds are used for the original intent of this donation. All but one of the current seven board members are charter members.
Each year, the foundation is fortunate to have donors and “friends of the foundation” who also contribute to this effort of providing scholarships. This year’s sponsors of scholarships includes Dr. Rodney Kalil, Zellco Federal Credit Union, the Bogalusa Rotary Club, Citizens Savings Bank and Mr. John Gallaspy. During the scholarship award ceremony, board president Debra Taylor thanked the board for their service. She proclaimed that this ceremony is always the highlight of the board’s year, because they are given the opportunity to award these scholarships to deserving students to assist with their educational needs.
Taylor also encouraged other businesses, organizations, individuals and groups to become a part of this effort by becoming a scholarship sponsor in the future.
