Monroe Alex Schilling, 69, a resident of Franklinton, died Saturday evening, April 4, 2020, at the Bogalusa Rehabilitation Hospital.
He worked for many years at 4-Star Meat Company and later worked for Asplundh Construction for several years. Monroe and his family were foster parents for 26 years. They had the blessing of fostering well over 40 children in need. He was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church and he had a special place in his heart for his pet Chihuahua, “Sugar.” Monroe loved watching Walker-Texas Ranger and spending time with his beloved family and grandchildren.
He is survived by: his wife of 44 years, Mary Miley Schilling of Franklinton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jessica Schilling Duval and Kevin Duval of Bogalusa, and Jackie Schilling Thompson and Kyle Thompson of Albany; two sons, John Schilling and Aiden Schilling; brother, Woodrow Schilling of Mt. Hermon; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janice Schilling, David Miley, R.M. and May Miley, Winford and Wanda Miley, Clarence Miley Sr. and Mollie Miley, Paul and Cherie Miley, and Alice Miley; and also numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by son, Christian Schilling; parents, Horace Schilling and Lula Mae Jenkins Schilling; siblings, Ray Schilling, Wanzie Schilling Sheridan, Arnie Schilling, Henry Schilling, Velma Blackwell, Fannie Lee Stogner, Arnold Buck Schilling, Buford Schilling, Emma Jean Cooper and Bertha Lee Finley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eld. Dave Miley and Helen Miley; and brother-in-law, Cletus Miley.
A graveside funeral service will be held in Miley Cemetery on Seven Mile Road at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, with the Rev. Timmy Mayeaux, Eld. Jason Skipper and the Rev. Caleb Martin officiating.
Pallbearers will include Josh Magee, Rusty Magee, Matt Miley, Clarence Miley Jr., Stanley Thomas, Johnny Yates and Mark Spence.
