On Thursday, shortly before 7 a.m., troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two-vehicle, serious injury crash on Louisiana Highway 16, just west of Louisiana Highway 1074 in Washington Parish. The crash claimed the life of Vanessa L. Kraft, 40, of Sun.
Trooper David Levy of the LSP Public Affairs Section said that the initial investigation led troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Kraft was driving a Saturn SL2 east on Highway 16. Kraft’s vehicle reportedly crossed the center line and struck a Ford Ranger pickup truck traveling west, head-on. Kraft received serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. A short time later, Kraft succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Kraft’s use of a seat belt remains under investigation, Levy said. The driver of the pickup truck was wearing a seat belt and was transported to an area hospital for moderate injuries.
Levy said that impairment is suspected, at this current time. As part of the crash investigation, blood samples were collected for scientific analysis. The investigation remains ongoing and no additional information is available at this time, Levy said.
