On Saturday, June 13, 2020, Garvie L. Hill passed away peacefully.
Garvie was affectionally called “Big Papa” by his family. Garvie was one of nine children born to the late Ollie Hill Sr. and Willie Mae Hill.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Marshall, Robert, Ollie Jr., and their only sister, Margaret.
Garvie graduated from Bogalusa High School and attended Grambling State University. Garvie worked for International Paper Mill. He was a member of UFCW Northern California Food and Drug. Garvie was a butcher for over 30 years. When he retired, he came back home to Bogalusa to take care of his sister, Margaret O’Neal.
Left to mourn his memory is his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Thelma Hill; their daughters, Andrea (Denise), and Ashanti (Shun); his grandchildren, Marc Diante (Little Papa), Mynisheisa (Missy), Myisstta (Buttons), Shanise and the youngest, Dwanye; two brothers, Roy (Jewel) and Charles (Joan), both of Bogalusa; two brothers-in-law, James Jr. (Gail) and David; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy (I.V.), all of Louisiana; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 30, at 11 a.m. at the Cook-Richmond Funeral Home in Bogalusa.
