The number of COVID-19 patients in Louisiana’s hospitals has fallen more than 40 percent since the start of August, according to statistics released Friday by the Louisiana Department of Health.

According to the LDH, the state reported 900 COVID-19 patients in hospitals as of Friday at noon. In its Aug. 1 update, the LDH reported 1,534 hospitalizations — the decrease of 634 hospitalizations represents a 41.3-percent drop.

The LDH reported that there were 141 patients on ventilators on Friday. On Aug. 1, there were 221 ventilators in use — the decrease of 80 ventilators represents a 36.2-percent drop.

Hospitalizations spiked in July at 1,600 on July 27, and have been on a steady decline since.

On Friday, the state reported 30 additional deaths, bringing the overall total to 4,741. There were an additional 627 cases reported, bringing the overall total to 146,243.

The LDH has reported 127,918 cases as presumed recovered, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state is currently under “Phase Two” of re-opening, and that order will continue until at least Friday, Sept. 11.
