Bogalusa’s Lumberjacks take to the road on Friday to play against Archbishop Hannan in a District 8-3A matchup.
The Lumberjacks enter this week with a 1-1 record.
Bogalusa comes in after being defeated in its league opener to Albany, 29-14.
“Hannan is the best team we have played since I’ve been here at Bogalusa,” Lumberjacks coach Adam Brumfield said. “Defensively they fly to the football and they are always where they are supposed to be. Offensively they have a great offensive line and a really good running back. This week we have to get ourselves back in shape and take care of the football. We lost two possessions on kickoff return last week and had two turnovers on offense. Hopefully the weather will allow us to do so. Also, our timing has to get better. With only one practice and a walk through and a new quarterback (Ashton Levi), who’s a freshman, I expected the timing to be off some, but it has to be better. The offense changes some with our quarterback Josh Taylor out. He was a three-year starter who the offense was built for and knew it like the back of his hand. We have to change some stuff in order to help Ashton out. We have to make things simpler for him and put him in a position to succeed. I felt like Ashton did a good job for it to be his first game (to start) last week of varsity football, especially for just one day of full practice to prepare. He is the quarterback of our future here at BHS. He has a strong arm and he’s going to be a really good football player. It’s our job to get him ready.”
Brumfield praised Lumberjacks quarterback coach Brian Williams.
“Brain Williams is his quarterback coach who I also have a ton a faith in,” Brumfield said. “He’s a former BHS alum that went on to play college football that we are fortunate to have on our staff. He is also a great role model for Ashton and is doing an outstanding job with him.”
Williams played college football at the University of Louisiana in Monroe.
Levi threw for 110 yards with two touchdowns last week and he ran for five yards. Levi and Raheem Roberts connected six times for 71 yards and both touchdowns. Roberts also rushed twice for 12 yards.
Tajdryn Forbes ran eight times for 90 yards and made three catches for 21 yards.
Talik Williams posted 38 yards on 12 attempts.
Jarvis Dawson had four rushing attempts for 11 yards.
Anthony Turner recorded two receptions for 18 yards.
Archbishop Hannan comes into this week with a 3-1 record after winning against Lakeshore, 35-21.
Bogalusa and Archbishop Hannan have played each other in each of the last three years. Hannan has won all three games, but all of the contests have been close.
Last year’s game was 20-13 with the two before that 28-20 and 30-27.
Following this game, Bogalusa will step out of district and play Booker T. Washington on the road for a Thursday game on Nov. 5.
