Vanessa Yvette Quillen Tyson was born March 31, 1957, to Shirley Mae Quillin and James Willis Johnson. Vanessa gained her wings and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020, surrounded by her family.
Vanessa was united in Holy matrimony to Bruce Tommy Tyson on April 24, 2000.
Vanessa has joined her beloved mother, Shirley Mae Quillen May; grandparents, the Rev. Amel Quillin Sr., Mrs. Willie Mae Quillin, Clemmie and Audrey Johnson; a brother, Malcolm Quillen; mother-in-law, Panzy Tyson; stepfather, Harline May; stepsister, Dorothy May; stepdaughter, Tashanda Nicole Lowery; and brother-in-law, Walter Wallis Tyson, in eternal rest.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Bruce Tommy Tyson; stepdaughter, Shawanda (Elric) Truvillion; stepson, Johnathan Lowery; grandson and nephews who she raised as her own, Danielle Dillon, Christopher Lowery and DeSean Quillen; father, James W. Johnson; siblings, Julius W. Quillen, Edwin (Jennifer) Quillen, Petrina (Thomas) Hartley, James (Jennifer) Quillen, Terence May, Christopher (Cassandra) Williams, Alicia Wilson, Cernora Johnson, James Johnson, Maggie Weaver, ASlee Harris, Gustavous Johnson, Detrea Nesbit, Bryant Johnson, Larry Johnson, Edward Johnson, Alvin Johnson and Frances Johnson Williams; sisters-in-law, Carol D. Tyson Quinn, Pamela (Albert Ray) Magee, Freddie Sharone Tyson, Zadie Mae Lee Spikes, Silvia (Frederick) Scott and Boswell (Majorie) Jordan; grandchildren, Christian Elizabeth Lowery, Elric Truvillion and Endon Truvillion; great-grandchildren, Jayden Harry, Reighn Truvillion, Nicole Lowery and Semaj Lowery; a childhood friend/sister, Elaine Miller; a god-child, Tameka J. (Cedric) Mingo; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and ride-or-die friends.
A drive-thru viewing was held Friday, Nov. 13, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa.
A Celebration Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Kingdom of God Church in Bogalusa, with Pastor Kendon Grant officiating. Interment will be in Barnes Cemetery.
