Local powerlifters will attempt to reach state on Friday and Saturday in the South Regional Championship that will take place at Pope John Paul II.
Lifters from Bogalusa, Franklinton and Pine are competing.
The girls will compete on Friday, while the boys look to qualify for state on Saturday. The girls meet will begin at 3 p.m., while the boys meet will start at 10 a.m.
To reach state, the lifter must either win their weight class at the regional meet or come in the top 10 of their division, but when somebody wins their regional, that counts as a spot toward state, so if somebody from a Division I school wins at regionals, there are nine spots left for state. There are six regions.
The state meet will take place March 18-20 at the Fant Ewing Coliseum on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
