Rutha Mae George Strahan, 86, a resident of Kentwood, died late Wednesday night, March 10, 2021 at Our Lady of The Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Ruth was a native of the Enon Community but had lived near Kentwood for nearly 20 years, during which time she worked at Cutrer’s Meat Market and Slaughterhouse. She was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star, who enjoyed sewing and gardening. Ruth always loved cooking for her family.
She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Christal Dubois of Kentwood, Joyce and Richard Hagey of Denham Springs, and Lisa Ledwig of Prairieville; a son, Terry Strahan of Hammond; five grandchildren and spouses; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard George of Franklinton; and also numerous other family members.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bradley Strahan; her husband of 60 years, Lee Roy Strahan; parents, John George and Effie Provost George; sisters, Sarah Mizell and Rowena Jenkins; and brothers, James George and Alonzo George.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home (1109 Bene St. in Franklinton) on Saturday, March 13, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, with the Rev. Jimmy Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencer Cemetery.
