Bogalusa’s Roberts comes in 3rd at Strawberry Relays

Bogalusa’s Raheem Roberts came in third place for the javelin during the Strawberry Relays that took place on April 9 at Southeastern Track Complex on the campus of Louisiana University.
Roberts threw the javelin 156 feet. Teammate Haikem Thompson was eighth, while Pine’s Cameron Brown took 16th and Varnado’s McLean Burns was 18th with distances of 127-0, 96-0 and 62-6. Mandeville’s John O’Connor won the event at 175-2.
Three teams from Washington Parish competed in the meet, including Bogalusa, Pine and Varnado.
Two locals came in fourth place across three events in Bogalusa’s Kalik Foster and Varnado’s Jarvis James.
Foster was fourth in the shot put and discus. Foster’s shot put result was 35-6, while he threw the discus 100-3. Mandeville’s Seth Pagart won both events. Pagart bested the shot put at 55-4.5 and discus with a distance of 133-0. Locally in the shot put, Pine’s Cameron Brown and Bogalusa’s Jayden Brice were seventh and eighth with tallies of 31-6.5 and 31-4.5. In the discus, Bogalusa’s Tony Harris and Pine’s Brown were fifth and 12th at 99-8 and 63-0.
James was fifth for the 800 after clocking in at 2 minutes, 12 seconds. Mandeville’s Nathan Fontan won in 2:07.
Varnado’s Zamariyon Washington was fifth in the 100 meters and 200 with times of 11.7 seconds and 26.9 respectively. Pine’s Ian Beltran was 15th in the 100 at 13.61. Pine’s Averyon Wiley took 15th at 26.9. Mandeville’s Brice Taylor won in 11.3, while Iowa’s Crajuan Bennett bested the 200 at 22.72.
Pine’s 4×200 relay team came in sixth place at 1:45. The group featured Beltran, Albert Caillouet, Aiden McIntosh and Wiley. Iowa won the event in 1:28.
Varnado’s James, Pine’s Wiley and Varnado’s Devonte Magee were eighth, ninth and 11th in the long jump with distances of 18-11, 18-10 and 18-9. Wiley tied Teurlings Catholic’s Coleman Bond, while Magee tied Iowa’s Christian Malbreaux. Iowa’s Tyrone Bass Jr. won at 20-9.
Magee was 10th in the triple jump at 36-9. Malbreaux won at 40-5.
Pine’s Samuel Thomas and Varnado teammates James and Burns were 14th, 17th and 18th in the 400 with times of 1:02.46, 1:02.73 and 1:07. Lafayette’s Emery Taylor won in 49.95.
Mandeville won the team competition with 116 points with 14 teams posting points.
Iowa was second at 106, followed by Teurlings Catholic’s 95, Lafayette’s 70 and Hammond, who rounded out the top five with 48 points. Bogalusa was ninth with 16 points, while Pine came in 14th with one point.
