Ira Konrad Batiste Sr., 65, died peacefully at home on May 18, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ira is survived by his wife, Rhea Brumfield Batiste of Bogalusa; mother, Ethel Batiste-Henry of Bogalusa; sons, LaK eith Pace Batiste of Clarksville, Tenn., Ira K. Batiste Jr. of Bogalusa, and Ashton L. Batiste of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Derana Batiste-Newton and Cheryl Batiste, both of Bogalusa; brothers, Willie (Adrean) Batiste of Bogalusa, and Ralph Batiste of Baton Rouge; his special nieces and nephew, Constanzia (Eric) Churn of Cinniminson, N.J., Phillip Mark III of Greensboro, N.C., Marika (Bill) Johnson of Fairburn, Ga., and Bliss Batiste of Bogalusa; and stepdaughter, Summer (Michael) Weiler of Holly Ridge, N.C. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren, a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, and several close friends to include Michael (Janice) Dobson and Lance Jackson, both of Bogalusa, and a loyal dog named “Soulja.”
Ira was preceded in death by his father, Stanley “Crawfish” Batiste Sr.; stepfather, Hardy “Pop” Henry; a brother, Stanley Batiste Jr.; a stepson, Rondy Vernon Jr.; and a beloved brother-in-law, Arthur “Art” Newton.
Per Ira’s wishes, there will be no service. A small private memorial for family and close friends will be held on Saturday, May 29. There will be no repast.
